Note: This is not a complete list! There exists no complete list of food additives and processing aids without E-numbers that are allowed in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland.
1. Ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose
Linked to:
- digestive problems
- gas
- bloating
- risk for constipation
2. Fructose
Cancer-causing impurities can be present due to the charcoal used in the refining process.
3. Galactose
See Fructose.
4. Glucose (also known as Dextrose or Grape sugar)
See Fructose.
5. Lactose
Cancer-causing impurities can be present due to the charcoal used in the refining process.
Lactose has induced cancer in laboratory animals.Note: These test results came from only using pure chemically extracted lactose sugar not from using any dairy food that contains natural occurring lactose.
6. Maltodextrin (Malt dextrin), Maltol, Ethlymaltol
These substances lower the hemoglobin levels in the blood and deposit an excess of hemosiderin, a breakdown product of red blood cells. This is especially dangerous for people with thalassemia, an inherited anemia.
Maltodextrin is often used in baby foods and is found in virtually all -including organic- yeast-free bouillon: cubes,powders or liquids.
Contains PFGA, see E260.
7. Nitrogen Oxide
Linked to:
- birth defects
- cancer
Used as a propellant in spray cans for whipped cream, etc.
8. Quinine
Linked to:
- birth defects
- ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and / or hearing loss
- nerve cell destruction
- purpura, a disease that causes purple or brownish spots on the skin
- visual disturbances
- vomiting
- nausea
- skin disorders such as rashes etc.
Quinine is found in Bitter Lemon, Quinine Water, Gin and Tonic mixes and in other flavoring agents including “natural flavors” where it does not have to be legally listed on the label.
9. Quinine hydrochloride, Quinine sulphate

10. Tannic acid
Linked to:
- kidney damage
- liver damage
- severe allergic reactions
- cancer
- is a proven neurotoxin
11. Zinc Sulfate
Linked to:
- cancer
Zinc sulfate is often used in baby foods. where it is often listed simply as “Zinc” on the ingredient list.
It is also often found in many tablets and capsules containing vitamins, minerals and herbs that are sold in regular stores and health food stores.
12. Gum base
Gum base is not a food additive or a processing aid but is the main ingredient in all chewing gums, and its exact ingredients and formula are allowed to remain secret.
Gum base always contains the following extremely dangerous ingredients:
- E321 BHT
- E553b Talk
- E905 Microcrystalline Wax
- Polyvinyl acetate or vinyl acetate
- Synthetic rubber or polybutylene which is why the gum never rots!
All these ingredients are absorbed from under the tongue (sublingually) every time you chew gum.
Dangerous Processing Aids
If a chemical is used in the processing of a food it need not be listed as an ingredient in Sweden and the EU, Norway and Switzerland, although it still remains in the food - this is a scandal!
All the chemicals that are added to food and remain in the food should be listed on the label. This is only a short list of "permitted" dangerous processing aid that remain in food but do not legally need to be listed on the labels.
Many dangerous additives such as E220 and E553b are also permitted as processing aids without having to be listed on the labels.
Note: This is not a complete list.
1. Acetone
Linked to:
- sterility
Is neurotoxic and is used in flavoring substances- including “natural” flavors, and colors- including “natural” colors.
2. Aluminum chloride
Linked to:
- kidney damage
Used in non-organic bread dough and yeast food

3. Aluminum potassium sulphate / Potassium aluminum sulphate
Used in sugar refining

4. Dichloromethane (Methylene chloride, Methylene dichloride)
Linked to:
- genetic damage
- cancer
5. Diethyl ether
Contains E321 and is used as a solvent for colors, including “natural “colors.
6. Dioctyl sodiumsulphosuccinate
Linked to:
- bowel disorders
- liver damage
- stomach irritation
- concentration problems
It is used in:
- emulsifiers
- powders and dry mixtures to be mixed with water
- the production of sugar
- laxatives
- spermicides
7. Ethoxyquin
Linked to:
- liver cancer
Is used in:
- non-organic apples and pears to prevent peeling
all papers that non-organic pears and apples are wrapped in are treated with it, where it is transferred to the fruit that is eaten.
Chicken reared with fish meal has it in their flesh and eggs
8. Ethyl acetate
Linked to:
- impaired nerve function
- genetic damage
Is used in:
- solvents
- the decaffeination of coffee ( Unless the package states that the " Swiss Water Method" or " Water Method " is used.)
- flavoring agent in chewing gum etc.
9. Hexane
Linked to:
- birth defects
- cancer
Used as a solvent for the production of flavors, including “natural” flavors and colors including “ natural” colors and in many but not all fish oil Omega-3 capsules and in almost all non-organic vegetable oils except in extra-virgin olive oil and in all non-organic lecithins such as rapeseed lecithin, soya lecithin, and sunflower lecithin.(See below.)
Hexane can never be completely removed.
Hexane is used to reduce heavy metals, pesticides and PCBs, etc. in fish oils. If you take any fish-oil Omega -3 product, ask the producer to answer you in a letter as to whether hexane is used in the production process or not. A letter is a legal document and an e-mail or a telephone conversation are not.
The best way to obtain the Omega 3 fatty acids is to eat fresh or frozen –not canned or vacuum packed: wild Pacific salmon or sardines. All tin cans contain the dangerous chemical BPA and vacuum packing in plastic causes dangerous chemicals such as adipates, pthalates, plasticizers and softeners to leach out from the plastic into the fish( which is also the case for all canned and vacuum packed cheeses and meats- even if organic,).
Other fatty fish such as mackerel, flounder, halibut herring, tuna, eel and all farmed fish such as farmed salmon and farmed trout etc. have an extremely high content of mercury.
Krill oil supplements do not have to be “cleaned” of dangerous pollutants because they come from the cleaner waters of the Antarctic Ocean and are at the very bottom of the food chain.
Hexane is used and always remains in all the following products:
- soy lecithin-unless it is organic
- rapeseed lecithin-unless it is organic
- sunflower lecithin-unless it is organic
- soy protein and all soya meat products
- plant protein such as brown rice protein or rice protein, pea protein, and wheat protein etc. and all the substitute meat products made with it
- TVP, textured vegetable protein and all substitute meat products made with it
10. Irradiation
Linked to:
- cancer
- genetic damage
No country prohibits the irradiation of spices and herbs. Virtually all non-organic herbs and spices are irradiated.
11. Methanol
Linked to:
- cancer
- depressant of the central nervous system
- impaired vision
Dangerous flavors banned in the United States but allowed in Sweden and the European Union, Norway and Switzerland
1. Calamus oil (natural)
Linked to:
- dangerous changes in blood values
- heart damage
- liver damage
2. Chloroform (synthetic)
Linked to:
- dangerous changes in blood values
3. Cinnamyl anthranilate (synthetic)
Linked to:
- liver cancer
4. Courmarin (natural)
Linked to:
- liver damage
- cancer
5. Saffrole (natural)
Linked to:
- liver cancer
Dangerous flavors that are allowed in Sweden and the EU, Norway, and Switzerland.
1.Caffeine
Linked to:
- bladder, liver, pancreatic and uterine cancer
- convulsions
- creates fat deposits in the liver
- decalcification of the bones
- decreased immune response
- edema
- fibrocystic breast disease (lumps in the breast)
- headaches
- hearing loss
- heart disease
- high blood sugar-by causing the liver to release glucose
- Increased sweating-often with a horrible odor
- insomnia
- liver cancer
- migraine
- PMS-Premenstrual Syndrome
- prostate problems - such as enlarged prostate, constant visits to the toilet, burning, feeling of fullness, and an inability to urinate
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- severe allergic responses-see the list
- severe menstrual cramps
- stomach ulcers
- stuttering
- caffeine prevents the absorption of iron by the body
- caffeine is physically addictive.
- caffeine is classified as a poison
- acute anxiety
- aggression
- anger
- apathy
- behavioral disorders
- behavioral disturbances
- concentration problems
- crying spells
- depression including severe depression
- difficulty in concentrating
- headaches
- hyperactivity
- insomnia
- irritability
- paranoia
- tensions
- Some countries consider caffeine a flavoring substance and simply hide it under the word “Flavor” in the ingredient list.
Caffeine can cause birth defects infertility, miscarriages and premature births.
Caffeine goes through the placental barrier and affects the fetus and can cause birth defects.
Caffeine also enters the breast milk. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid black tea, coffee, cola drinks, dark chocolate, all guarana products and yerba mate tea.
Disorders caused by caffeine are often misdiagnosed incorrectly as psychological disorders, particularly in children and in adults people who are caffeine sensitive.
The effect of caffeine is much greater on children than adults. Cola drinks can contain as much caffeine as coffee.
Young children and teenagers who drink cola and soft drinks are particularly affected.
Many case of ADD, ADHD have been cured by removing all caffeine, food additives, processing aids and flavors (including all natural and organic flavors) from the diet. It is also necessary for all children and adults suffering from these two disorders (and psychological disorders ) to have a complete blood test and skin prick test to detect all possible food allergies and food intolerances and to strictly avoid the offending foods.
Both a complete blood test and a skin prick test are necessary. (See also the Dr. Feingold Diet.). All cosmetics and personal care products-with the exception of a pure (no herbs etc.) organic soap- should also be avoided.( See my book for further information.)Remember, caffeine is classified as a poison- it is not a harmless stimulant.
Decaffeinated coffee and tea may be manufactured by the Swiss water method, or with dangerous solvents such as hexane etc. which always remain in the coffee and in the tea. Make sure the package states that the “Water Method” or the “Swiss Water Method” was used to remove caffeine on the package.
The dangerous proven cancer-causing substances that are named heterocyclic amines or HCA`s, which are caused by the roasting of the coffee bean, are still present in decaffeinated coffee, as they are in all coffee substitutes. The best is to drink organic decaffeinated green tea or white tea or simply well known herbal teas.
2. Ethyl vanillin (Vanillin, ,Vanilla flavoring,Flavoring)
Linked to:
- kidney damage and kidney disease
- damage to the lungs
- gastrointestinal irritation
- severe allergic reactions
Eat only products that indicate “vanilla” as an ingredient.
3. Lemon oil
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration of the United States government) has proven lemon oil to be carcinogenic (cancer –causing) and has declared it to be a cancer-causing substance.
It is often used as a “natural flavoring” in both "regular" food products and in various health food products-including organic products- such as candies, cookies and cakes etc. (and natural and organic cosmetics and personal care products). It is often simply listed as “natural (or organic) lemon flavoring.”
Lemon oil is squeezed under high pressure from the peel, not from the fruit. The fruit of the lemons is very healthy if you are not allergic to citrus fruits
4. Smoke (natural or synthetic)
Linked to:
- stomach cancer
Unless the following products state clearly on the label that they are unsmoked, all the following products are always smoked:
- bacon
- baloney
- cold cuts
- cooked ready to eat sausages
- frankfurters
- ham
- hot dogs
- liver sausage
- pate`s
- salami
- wurst
Smoke does not have to be declared on the ingredient list.
It can be legally hidden under the ingredient of “Flavor.”
Note: All organic products are also allowed to be smoked.
Smoke contains many cancer-causing chemicals that are transferred to the food that is exposed to it. It does not matter whether the smoke is natural or synthetic.
Food industries use liquid smoke- which is a chemical mixture that is heated to produce a synthetic smoke- or they simply add a chemical smoke flavoring.
Examples of severe allergic reactions:
- aggression
- anger which includes: angry uncontrollable shifts in mood,outbursts of anger, yelling and head banging etc.
- anxiety
- asthma
- black circles under the eyes
- confusion
- convulsions
- crying spells
- depression including severe depression
- diarrhea
- difficulty in concentrating
- difficult to focus and see clearly
- drowsiness after meals
- eczema
- eye swelling
- fatigue
- gout symptoms
- hallucinations
- headache
- heartburn
- high blood pressure
- hyperactivity
- itching
- itching in the eyes
- learning disabilities
- migraine
- mouth ulcers
- nausea
- nervousness
- pain in muscles and joints
- paranoia
- persistent catarrh
- polyps in the nose
- psoriasis
- psychotic seizures
- rhinitis - constantly running nose
- schizophrenia (Many people with schizophrenia have been found to simply be suffering from multiple severe reactions to either food additives,processing aids and/or certain foods
- sneezing
- stomach pain
- sudden need to urinate
- tachycardia - fast heart rate regardless of physical exertion
- skin diseases-including Urticaria,a rash that itches and stings
- weakness
All people suffering from any of the above medical disorders and especially people suffering from any mental and/or physical medical disorder of an “unknown origin” should avoid all:
- alcohol
- caffeine containing foods and beverages inc. chocolate, coffee, black, green, oolong and white teas, guarana products, and mate tea
- carambola fruit (star fruit) and rhubarb because of the very high amount of oxalic acid that they contain
- sugars including all types of raw sugar, dried fruit, fruit juices, honey, and synthetic sweeteners such as aspartame,saccharin,sorbitol and xylitol etc. see E 420 E,421, and E950-968 etc.
- refined carbohydrates ( these are quickly broken down into sugar ( glucose ) in the body) such as white flour, rye flour which does not say stoneground,corn flour, potatoes ,white rice and puffed crackers such as puffed brown rice crackers etc.
- foods containing solanine including: bell peppers (Paprika in Swedish), eggplants, potatoes, tomatoes, cayenne pepper and chili - both sweet and hot) – pepper.
- all grain products containing gluten such as wheat, barley, kamut, spelt,rye, triticale and possibly oats.Some people who are allergic to gluten can eat oats especially if they the commercially named gluten free variety of oats.
- all food additives as much as possible
- all“flavors” including all those listed as natural flavors and organic flavors
- Try to eat only organic food as far as is possible.
They should also avoid using all cosmetics and personal care products except for an organic pure soap with no herbs or fragrance etc. such as the organic hard soaps made by :1.Sonett or 2.Urtekram No Perfume Soap

They must also have both a blood test and a skin prick test to check for all possible food allergies. Both a blood test and a skin prick test are necessary-a skin test is much too imprecise.
